[Japan] Microsoft x Capcom announcements galore التعاون الجديد بين مايكروسوفت و كابكوم

In today’s press conference, Microsoft announced that they’ll be bringing out Capcom’s massive hit series Monster Hunter on the X360. Monster Hunter Frontier was originally a PC game launched in 2007 with a heavy MMOesque emphasis on gameplay where 4 hunters (aka players) unite in order to take down huge monsters (aka bosses). Incessant loot follows.

The game will cost 1400 Yen ($15.5) per month for subscription. What essentially amounts to being an MMO, the game will also require an HDD, which I’m hoping most of X360 users nowadays have. While initially the servers will be separate from PC players, Capcom hopes to bring them together at a future date.

Being a Western console, 4 years after it’s release, Microsoft’s X360 is still struggling in the Japanese hardware sales chart. Initiatives like this, and other Japanese centric games such as FF XI and the Idolm@ster series pulls in a large crowd. Whether this will have significant impact in the Japanese market for Microsoft remains to be seen. Whether we’ll get MHF outside of Japan hasn’t been announced yet, but given the relative success of FF XI on X360, this certainly seems like a good possibility.

The game will be out some time this summer, followed by Dead Rising 2. However, before either of these two games hit retail, Super Street Fighter IV will be out on 28th April and Lost Planet 2 on 20th May in Japan. We get Lost Planet 2 two days before Japan, on 18th May, but SSFIV two days late, on 30th April.
