إصدارة ‘بيتا’ من لعبة ‘ميدال أوف هونور’

إليكم أول مبارياتي في مهمة ‘أطلال مدينة كابول’ Kabul City Ruins على بلايستيشن 3 . لن أتمكن من اللعب بإصدارة اكس بوكس 360 قبل الأسبوع القادم ولكني أجدها رائع. أحتاج لبعض الوقت للاعتياد عليها فأنا معتاد على ‘كول أوف ديوتي’ وليس ‘باتل فيلد’.

12 أكتوبر 2010، هو اليوم الذي سيتم فيه إطلاق لعبة Medal of honor، وذلك وفقاً لما أعلنته شركة EA. وكما تذكرون، فالجزء الجديد من هذه السلسلة سيعيد إطلاقها لتجري الأحداث خلال العصر الحالي. وستدور أحداث قصة اللعبة في أفغانستان وستركز على قصة مجموعة من جنود النخبة الذين ينتمون إلى فرقة قوات خاصة اسمها Tier 1 Operators.

يقودنا هذا الفيلم الترويجي إلى اللعبة بشكل عاطفي، غير أننا بحاجة أن نرى بعض مشاهد اللعب الحقيقية، قبل أن نعلق عليها الكثير من الآمال!

Of interest though is the fact that on March 2, Activision fired Vince Zampella and Jason West as co-heads of Infinity Ward for “insubordination”. Both sides have taken their dispute to the court, with mixed allegations and accusations. Infinity Ward, also located in Encino, California, was founded in 2002 by 22 former employees of 2015, Inc., including the project leads who had worked on Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Infinity Ward was later on acquired by Activision in October 2003, and is responsible for the development of Call of Duty game.

The duo have stated in an interview with LA Times that after eight years of working on Call of Duty for the firm, they were eager to forge a new path.

مصمما لعبة مودرن وار فيير ينتقلان إلى أحضان شركة إي أيه

أعلن كل من “جيسن ويست” و”فينس زامبيلا”، مصمما سلسلة ألعاب Call of Duty عن إنشاء استوديو Respawn في مدينة Encino بولاية كالفورنيا، وذلك كشركة مستقلة تتخصص بتطوير أحدث ألعاب الفيديو الموجهة لكل اللاعبين في العالم. وقد أعطت شركة Respawn حقوق نشر منتجاتها القادمة لشركة Electronics Art (EA) وذلك ضمن اتفاق شراكة حصري يعطي EA حقوق استغلال الألعاب القادمة التي ستطورها Respawn، فيما تبقي إدارة حقوق الملكية الفكرية للمشاريع التي تبتكرها Respawn خاصة بها وحدها. ولم تتسرب أية تفاصيل حول شروط العقد بعد.

من المفيد التذكير بأنه وفي الثاني من مارس الماضي، قامت شركة Activision بفصل “زامبيلا” و”ويست” من وظيفتهما على رأس استوديوهات Infinity Ward لأسباب تتعلق بتمردهم على توجيهات الشركة الأم. وقد أخذ كل واحد من الطرفين المتنازعين بقضيته إلى المحكمة، مع الكثير من الاتهامات المتبادلة. وللعلم فإن مقر شركة Infinity Ward يقع في مدينة Encino أيضاً، وقد تأسست في عام 2002 على يد 22 موظفاً سابقاً لدى شركة 2015,Inc ومن ضمنهم مدراء المشروع الذين عملوا على لعبة Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. وقد تم شراء شركة Infinity Ward لاحقاً من قبل Activision في أكتوبر 2003، وأصبحت بعد ذلك مسؤولة عن تطوير أجزاء سلسلة لعبة Call of Duty.

وقد صرح الثنائي خلال مقابلة مع LA Times بأنهما متشوقان لبدأ طريق جديد لهما بعد 8 سنوات من العمل على لعبة Call of Duty ضمن شركتهما القديمة.

خمس صور جديدة من لعبة “ميدل أوف اونر”

نشرت شركة EA خمس صورة جديدة من الجزء الجديد للعبتها القادمة (ميدل أوف اونر أو ميدالية الشرف!) Medal of Honor، وهي لعبة رماية تم تجديدها بشكل كامل كانطلاقة جديدة تعيد التألق إلى سلسلة ألعاب Medal of Honor المشهورة. ومن المقرر أن تطرح في الأسواق خلال عام 2010 وذلك على أجهزة الحاسوب PS3 و Xbox360. تجري أحداث هذه اللعبة في الوقت المعاصر ضمن عمليات القوات الأمريكية في أفغانستان، وتركز على قصة وحدة القوات الخاصة Tier 1 Operator، وهي وحدة قتالية غامضة تحت قيادة القوات المشتركة، ويتم تكليفها دائماً بمهمات لا يجرؤ الآخرون على القيام بها، وقد أوضح الفيلم الدعائي الأول عن اللعبة قدرات محرك الرسوميات، ولمح إلى قصة اللعب حيث ذكر أن “الأعداء” في أفغانستان قد اكتسبوا ذكاء وحنكة قتالية حولت الحرب في أفغانستان من نزهة إلى لعنة. وقد قام فريق تطوير اللعبة بالتنسيق مع أفراد من وحدة Tier 1 Operators التابعة لقيادة العمليات الخاصة الأمريكية منذ المراحل الأولية لتصميم اللعبة وذلك لضمان تقديم صورة حرب حديثة واقعية الى أقصى الحدود. وهاكم خمس صور لتروا بأنفسكم ما يتم العمل عليه حالياً!

Let’s take a trip down memory lane.

Looking back at ‘99 and all the titles released back then, I realise that was one hell of a year! So in this article I’ll talk a little about some of the highest rated games of a decade ago and how they influenced the games of today.

Let’s start with Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun. Well, not much to say here since the game turned out to be a disappointment for many people. After this, Westwood Studios made another dud, C&C: Renegade and will perhaps be only remembered for their glory days of the early 90s, when they came out with truly revolutionary titles like the first C&C and Dune games.  What was left of Westwood Studios later on developed the might Red Alert 2 and the highly controversial (yet very enjoyable) C&C: Generals. It was not until 2007 that the Tiberium storyline resurfaced with much applause. The 4th game in the series, C&C: Tiberian Twilight promises to revolutionise the genre, and will be out in March 2010.

Next up, Marvel vs Capcom, the game that made many a fans dreams come true. The game featured easy gameplay with incredibly flashy combos going on screen. This was also one of those cherished games that made the Dreamcast standout from the looming shadow of the upcoming PlayStation 2. While Japan has seen many such crossover fighting games since, the Western release of such games has been very difficult, most not coming out here at all. The simple reason is due to various companies holding the licenses to all the characters being used in such games. Thankfully, the much lauded sequel to the game can be enjoyed as a downloadable title from you PS3 or X360.

One of the first open world racing games to grace us was the original Midtown Madness, with it’s almost true to life recreation of Chicago and some of the latest licensed cars on the market. The free-roaming  aspects combined with fully 3d pedestrian models jumping out of your way, complete with LAN and online multiplayer modes made this one of the best racing games of the time. Of course, Angel Studios later on became Rockstar San Diego and has brought us all the games in the Midnight Club series since. While I wasn’t a fan of their latest game, Midnight Club: LA, I am looking forward to Red Dead Redemption out in April 2010.

Asheron’s Call was the first MMO by Turbine Entertainment. Yet another fantasy MMORPG with great initial success, but declined in popularity later on due to another big MMO that hit later on. The game has a significant following, with its servers still running hot even after a decade. Turbine later on made the Dungeons & Dragons Online game followed by Lord of the Rings Online.

After the brilliance of the first Resident Evil, Shinji Mikami returned 3 years later to the director’s seat for Dino Crisis. Unlike Capcom’s other survival horror series, Dino Crisis didn’t really have great sequels, with a franchise left in dust in the wake of Resident Evil 4 and God Hand, Mikami’s other great directorial successes. Working for Platinum Games, he is currently working on an unannounced game with Suda51.

From one survival horror game to another, the first Silent Hill was also released this year. This game really defined the term survival-horror more so than Resident Evil and Dino Crisis, both of which focused more on action gameplay and empowering the player. Instead, Silent Hill focused on creeping the hell out its players by not having any HUD. What this meant was that simple indications like your equipment, health status, etc. were non-existent, instead you had to rely on what you saw and heard. The franchise later on spawned some of the most successful survival horror games in history, expanding into various spin-offs in the forms of light-gun arcade games, books and even a movie. Sadly, none of the recent entries in the franchise capture the magic of the first game.

Not exactly a survival horror, more a survival terror game, the reboot of Aliens vs Predator in 1999 was one of the best shooters at the time. Just like Silent Hill, AvP created a lot of tension and stress, especially when playing as the Human faction. Upgraded graphics from the 1994 game meant that players really felt the terror of being hunted. Rebellion Developments later on worked on the Delta Force series and is currently prepping the new AvP game out in Feb 2010.

Team Fortress Classic, released in early ’99 as a mod for Half-Life, being one the first few class based multiplayer games that focused more on teamwork rather than which team got the higher kills. This game started the trend of Valve focusing on mods for their AAA games and then capitalizing on them in favour of the community. There’s not much to say here other then its sequel is currently one of the most popular online multiplayer games with a huge community.

Speaking of which, Half-Life spawned another little mod that was developed by the community earlier that year called Counter-Strike. Its popularity rose to such ridiculous heights that Valve themselves soon got the developers working for them and then officially released the game in 2000. There’s not much else to say here, the influence of Counter-Strike in modern FPS multiplayer games is still felt. Its impact on the community and mass media was widespread. And even after a decade of its release, the original Counter-Strike (1.6), despite a newer Source Engine based sequel, is still one of the highest played online PC games, and used in many professional competitions.

Medal of Honor was the game that single-handedly spawned the World War II genre in the gaming industry as we know it. The story of the game was created by Steven Spielberg, fresh off the trails of Saving Private Ryan. His next invlovement with video games would be the amazing Medal of Honor: Allied Assault 2 years later on the PC, followed by Boom Blox on the Wii. A decade of WWII games later, the genre is finally being let go, and series itself is getting a reboot into the modern era in Fall 2010.

Another open world driving game, but with much drama and style was Driver. The game had a very suave 70s feel to it, with brilliant driving mechanics and a great story. Sadly, none of its sequels ever came even close to the brilliance of the first game. A movie was under development for the longest time, but has been put on hold with no immediate signs of production. This was a real gem of a franchise; alas fate looked upon it with utter cruelty.

Earlier in the year, Sony released one the biggest MMOs in history, known as EverQuest. This game was the World of Warcraft before World of Warcraft came out. In its time, i.e. before WoW’s release, this game had a huge cultural impact on the mass media and immense fan following. Since release, the game has had 16 expansions, another direct sequel with its own 8 expansion packs. The game is still up and running, but the franchise is a mere shadow of its former self, thanks to Blizzard’s behemoth.

The racing genre was represented with two major games this year, one of which was Ridge Racer Type 4. The game featured two player split-screen and two driving modes: drift and grip. More than anything, the game featured a new shading technique that provided better 3d visuals than any of the previous games. Marking the end of an era, this was also the final Ridge Racer game on the original PlayStation.

Jill Valentine makes a triumphant return in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. The was unique in it’s story telling in that the first half of the game took place a day before the events of Resident Evil 2, and the latter half two days after the T-Virus broke out in Raccoon City. So bad good was the game’s story, that it formed the basis of the second Resident Evil movie as well. Interestingly, Jill will be a playable character in the upcoming Resident Evil 5 DLC, out in March 2010.

While C&C: Tiberian Wars was a disappointment to some, Relic Entertainment came to the rescue with Homeworld. A beautiful 3d space RTS, Homeworld boasted completely free-moving camera controls and a kickass storyline. The sci-fi music also had its appeal. Relic Entertainment came out with a sequel 4 years later, and also worked on the Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War RTS games. The expansion to their highly acclaimed Dawn of War II will be out in March 2010.

Now it’s time for a game that divided the fanbase of series more than any other title released to date, Final Fantasy VIII. Many people pointed out the huge plot holes in the game’s storyline and the complex battle system.  While the lack of voice over’s was also a concern for many, the overall story and characters won the hearts of over 8 million people worldwide. Meanwhile the series saw 3 new original entries (IX, X and XII), one sequel (X-2) and its first online entry (XI) and various other spin-offs. Next year will see the release of FF XIII and most likely FF XIV, their second online game.

The last of a dying breed, FreeSpace 2  is still one of the best space combat sims if you can look past the dated graphics. I personally found Freelancer to be a great spiritual successor to the game, but that’s just me. Volition Inc then went on to work on the Saints Row series, and most recently the Red Faction games. Perhaps Jumpgate Evolution, whenever it comes out, will satiate my desires for space dogfights.

I cannot talk about 1999 without mentioning Crash Team Racing. This game ruled my life for the better part of that year, and few after that. This was, and still remains, one of the best kart racers, a genre that still hasn’t been significantly improved upon despite the game’s sequels and various Mario Kart entries in recent years. Naughty Dog went on to greater heights with the Jak & Daxter games, and of course, their recent epic, Uncharted 2.

The last RTS to be mentioned for 1999, but definitely not the least, is Age of Empires II. One of the highest rated games of the year, and highest rated RTS of all time, Ensemble Studios pretty much perfected the formula with the release of this game. The multiplayer was epic in every way. While even they couldn’t live up to the greatness of AoE II with sequels such as Age of Mythology and Age of Empires III, Ensemble Studio’s swan song, Halo Wars showed that RTS games are indeed possible and fun on home consoles.

We’re getting to the finals of the year, so let’s talk about one of the most disturbing survival horror games ever, System Shock 2. This game played with your mind like no other, the atmosphere, the villain, the story were all perfectly blended together to give you the psychological thriller of your life. This was, of course, the game that actually spawned Bioshock, one of the highest rated games ever. Bioshock 2 will be out in February 2010, so look forward to more thrills but lesser chills.

The final racing game to be mentioned on this list is Gran Turismo 2. Towards the end of the PlayStation’s lifecycle, this was one of the few games that still pushed the hardware to its absolute limits, providing unprecedented graphics, even in the face of Dreamcast.  The much awaited GT5 will hit March 2010.

SoulCalibur to date remains one of the highest rated games ever, and for a good reason too. Realistic body movements and unconventional weapons, coupled with easy pick-up-and-play controls were highly touted. Of course, the mind blowing graphics also helped. This game was one of the showpieces of the Dreamcast, and boy did it move units. As with many fighting games, the sequels felt like watered down versions of the original, never matching it in terms of quality and innovation.

Closing out the year are two of the most influential and highly respected FPS games ever, Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament. Never, in the history of video games, has there been such a fierce competition between two titles in the same genre, both being released a mere 10 days apart from each other, both targeting the same market segment. Years after their release, both UT and QIII were used in professional gaming events and their engines being outsourced to develop countless other games. No game since their release has ever captured the passion and excitement for online multiplayer frag sessions as these two games. The brilliant part was that both games were equally good, and fanboys of either camp begrudgingly acknowledging the greatness of the other game. As with a lot of games this year, the sequels to these titles never reached the heights of their originals, with UT3 being abandoned by most of the community as a dull and Quake 4 being an utterly forgettable experience.

So what have we learned from 1999? The biggest games at the end of the millennium were multiplayer FPSs, innovative RTSs, brilliant Fighting games, exciting Racing games and epic (MMO)RPGs. A decade later and many of these genres have mixed with each other. Almost every game now has to have a multiplayer mode, RPG elements and some sort of resource management, albeit not as exhaustive as RTS games. Music games are declining (hopefully) and Co-op games are making a triumphant return. Handheld games are huge, and so are browser based games (Quake Live). However, the best leap in exciting gameplay and story has been in the action-adventure genre thanks to games like the Devil May Cry, God of War and Uncharted series.

Video games are now as much a part of mainstream media as music and movies. Games are being provided on as many platforms as humanly possible. Online content delivery, although still in its infancy, is getting huge and will, in the next decade, overtake traditional physical media. Everything is interconnected to social networking, communities are bigger than ever and breaking into the industry is a little easier than it used to be.

So let’s all of us wear our shades and walk towards the bright future as we enter this new decade.

نظرة الى الماضي في عام 1999

بالعودة الى عام 1999 وكل تلك الألعاب الجديدة التي صدرت في حينها فقد تنبهت إلى أنها كانت سنة مليئة بالألعاب المميزة وسأتحدث في هذه المقالة عن بعض أكثر الألعاب أهمية في تلك الحقبة والتي ألهمت العديد من ألعاب اليوم.

فلنبدأ بلعبة command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun, حسناً لا يمكن قول الكثير عنها لأنها كانت بنظر الكثيرين خيبة أمل كبيرة مما دعى الشركة المطورة Westwood Studios لتنفيذ لعبة أخرى C&C: Renegade و بكل الأحوال فيجب أن يتم ذكرهم لأيامهم المجيدة في أوائل التسعينات، عندما استطاعوا تقديم ألعاب ثورية حقيقية مثل الجزء الأول من C&C وألعاب Dune. أما ما تبقى من فريق عمل Westwood فقد طوروا اللعبة العملاقة Red Alert 2 واللعبة المثير للجدل (والممتعة) C&C: Generals واقتضى الأمر الانتظار حتى عام 2007 لتبدأ سلسلة ألعاب تعتمد على قصة Tiberium والتي نالت استحسان الجميع. أما اللعبة الرابعة في هذه السلسلة C&C: Tiberian Twilight فهي تعدنا بقفزة ثورية جديدة في عالم الألعاب الاستراتيجية، والتي سترى النور في مارس 2010.

اللعبة التالية هي Marvel vs Capcom والتي جعلت حلم العديد من هواة القصص المصورة وألعاب الفيديو يتحقق، والتي مثلت ظاهرة جديدة اجتمعت فيها سهولة اللعب مع عدد كبير من الحركات القتالية بشكل جذاب، لقد كانت هذه اللعبة أيضاً احد أهم العوامل التي ساهمت في استمرار جهاز دريم كاست ووقوفه لفترة من الزمن في وجه الجهاز الصاعد الجديد بلايستيشن2. وعلى الرغم من أن اليابان ازدحمت بألعاب القتال منذ ذلك الحين، إلا أن القليل منها وصل الى الأسواق العالمية، والسبب بسيط، فالشخصيات المستخدمة في الألعاب لها الكثير من الشخصيات المالكة وأصحاب الحقوق. ولكن ولحسن الحظ فإن أكثر أجزاء السلسلة شحناً بالشخصيات والأبطال يمكن تحميلها والاستمتاع بها على جهازي PS3 و Xbox360.

أما أكثر ألعاب سباق السيارات التي أقنعتنا بأدائها فهي لعبة Midtown Madness، مع ما عرضته في ذلك الوقت من إعادة تمثيل لميدنة شيكاغو بشوارعها وأحيائها وأنت تجول فيها مستخدماً احدث السيارات في عصرها بل وبالمشاة الذين يقفزون بعيداً عن سيارتك، وأخيراً مع دعم للعب الجماعي على الشبكة LAN وأنماط لعب على انترنت مما جعلها من أفضل ألعاب القيادة آنذاك. بالطبع فإن الشركة المطورة لها Angel Studios تحولت فيما بعد الى Rockstar San Diego وأنتجت سلسلة ألعاب Midnight Club منذ ذلك الوقت، وعلى الرغم من أنني لست من هواة آخر لعبة لهم Midnight Club: LA فأنا أنتظر بشوق لعبتهم القادمة Red Dead Redemption في أبريل 2010.

كانت لعبة Asheron’s Call اول لعبة جماعية كبيرة على الانترنت MMO وهي من تطوير شركة Turbine Entertainment. وهي لعبة فانتازيا من نوع MMORPG حققت نجاحاً كبيراً في بدايتها، غير أنها تراجعت أمام لعبة تالية من نفس النوع. لقد استمرت متابعة هذه اللعبة بشكل مثير للاعجاب فلا تزال مخدماتها Servers تعمل بعد مرور عقد على تصميمها، وقد طورت الشركة لاحقاً Online Dungeons & Dragons ومن ثم Lord of the Rings Online.

إثر النجاح الكبير الذي حققته لعبة ريزدنت ايفل، عاد المخرج شينجي ميكامي الى كرسي الإخراج بعد ثلاث سنوات من أجل لعبة دينو كرايسيس، وبشكل يخرق نمط ألعاب الرعب المعتاد في شركة كابكوم، فإن لعبة Dino Crisis لم يتم إلحاقها بأجزاء أخرى ناجحة، وتم وضعها على الرف في زمن صعود نجم لعبة Resident Evil 4 ولعبة God Hand، وهي من إبداعات ميكامي الإخراجية الأخرى. وحالياً فإن هذا المخرج الفذ يعمل في مشروع سري لم يتم الإعلان عنه مع استوديوهات Suda51.

من لعبة رعب الى لعبة رعب أخرى، فلقد تم إطلاق الجزء الأول من سايلنت هيل في ذلك العام أيضاً. تلك اللعبة التي أعادت تعريف ألعاب الرعب التي تعتمد على مصير البطل بحيث أن ألعاباً مثل Resident Evil و Dino Crisis والتي تصنف على أنها ألعاب رعب أيضاً إلا أنها تعتمد على الحركة والقتال والإثارة، أما لعبة Silent Hill فقد اعتمدت التركيز على إرعاب اللاعب في جو مشحون مليء بالتوتر، فاللاعب لا يجد شيئاً على شاشته من مؤشرات الألعاب العادية، فلا يوجد إلا مؤشر صغير للصحة وآخر لما يحمله، وفيما عدا ذلك فعليه أن يعتمد على مايراه على الشاشة أو ما يسمعه. لقد استطاعت هذه اللعبة أن تحقق أحد أشهر وأنجح سلاسل ألعاب الرعب في تاريخها، وتم إنتاجها بأنماط جديدة (إضافة المسدس الضوئي على أجهزة Arcade) وتأليف كتب وقصص عنها بل وحتى أفلام سينمائية. غير أن اياً من الانتاجات اللاحقة في هذه السلسلة لم يصل الى مستوى السحر الذي ظهر في الجزء الأول.

لا تعتبر لعبة Aliens vs Predator لعبة رعب، بل هي لعبة مغامرات مرعبة، وكان إطلاقها عام 1999 كواحدة من أفضل ألعاب الرماية في ذلك الوقت ومثلها مثل لعبة Silent Hill فقد خلقت لعبة AvP جواً مفعماً بالتوتر والقلق للاعبين، خصيصاً عندما يلعبون بدور البشر. وتم تطوير الرسوميات عن تلك التي ظهرت عام 1994، ليتم إيقاع اللاعب وإقناعه بجو اللعبة بشكل مثير. فيما بعد عملت الشركة المطورة Rebellion على إنتاج سلسلة ألعاب Delta Force وهي الآن تستعد لإطلاق جزئها الجديد من AvP في فبراير 2010.

تم إطلاق لعبة Team Fortress Classic في بداية 1999 كتعديل على لعبة هاف لايف، وكانت واحدة من أول الألعاب التي تعتمد على فكرة الفئات في تسليح اللاعبين وبالتالي التركيز على اللعب الجماعي بين أفراد الفريق أكثر من مجرد القتال لتحصيل أكبر عدد من القتلى. وقد بدأت اللعبة كمحاولة للاستفادة من موارد شركة فالف المتوفرة لتقديم شيء مجاني لقاعدة مشجعي اللعبة وتطورت لتصبح شيئاً تستثمر فيه الشركة بكل طاقتها وبشكل مخصص. ولا يوجد المزيد لقوله إلا أن هذه اللعبة تعتبر حالياً أحد أكثر الألعاب الجماعية شعبية على الإنترنت.

بنفس السياق ألهمت لعبة Half-Life تعديلاً آخر قامت به مجموعة من الهواة وأطلقت عليه Counter-Strike. وانتشرت شعبيته كالنار في الهشيم مما جعل شركة Valve توظف هؤلاء الشباب الذين قاموا بالتعديل وتطلق اللعبة بشكل رسمي عام 2000. ولا يمكن إغفال التأثير الكبير الذي خلقته لعبة counter Strike في عالم ألعاب الرماية FPS الجماعية (ومايزال). لقد امتد التأثير الى وسائل الإعلام والمجتمع وتحول الى ظاهرة يتم مناقشة جوانبها وتأثيراتها، وعلى الرغم من تطوير محرك ثلاثي أبعاد جديد لها، إلا ان هذه اللعبة لا تزال بإصدارها القديم (1.6) من اكثر الالعاب الجماعية على الحاسب ممارسة على الإنترنت ولا يزال يتم استخدامها حتى في المنافسات والمسابقات الرسمية.

كانت لعبة ميدالية الشرف Medal of Honor هي اللعبة الوحيدة التي اخترقت أجواء العاب الحرب العالمية الثانية كما نعرفها اليوم. تمت كتابة القصة من قبل المخرج العالمي ستيفن سبيلبرغ فيما كان لايزال فيلمه Saving Private Ryan في صالات العرض، أما مساهمته التالية في عالم ألعاب الفيديو فكانت بعد سنتين باللعبة الرائعة Medal of Honor: Allied Assuilt على الحاسوب ومن ثم على جهاز Wii عن طريق شركة Boom Blox. وبعد مرور عشر سنوات على هذا النوع من الألعاب، فها هو هذا يبدأ بالانطفاء ويبدو في الأفق انطلاقة جديدة لهذه السلسلة ضمن أجواء الحرب المعاصرة في خريف 2010.

لعبة قيادة في عالم مفتوح، وضمن قصة درامية مثيرة، هكذا كانت لعبة درايفر Driver والتي تميزت بأجواء السبعينات مع سيارات بديعة وقصة ممتازة. للأسف فإن أياً من أجزائها التالية لم يصل حتى ولو الى شيء من بريق الجزء الأول. كما تم إيقاف فيلم عن هذه اللعبة سبق خبر انتشار صناعته، إلا أنه يبدو قد وُضع على الرف دون اي معلومات عن قرب تنفيذه. يالها من نموذج لفشل الأجزاء التالية عن مجاراة نجاح الأصل..

في أول ذلك العام، قامت شركة سوني بنشر أحد أكبر الألعاب الجماعية على الإنترنت MMO في التاريخ وكان اسمها EverQuest. لقد كانت تلك اللعبة هي المسيطرة على الانترنت في حقبة ما قبل World of Warcraft و كان لها تأثير ثقافي واجتماعي كبير على المجتمع والإعلام وقاعدة الجماهير التي تتابعها. ومنذ إطلاقها فقد تم ترقية اللعبة 16 مرة، كما تم طرح جزء جديد مع 8 ترقيات خاصة به. ولاتزال اللعبة فعالة ويجري اللعب بها يومياً، غير أنها تبدو كظل لما قد بدأت به والفضل بذلك للعبة Blizzard الضخمة WoW.

تم تقديم ألعاب القيادة في هذا العام من خلال لعبتين أساسيتين أحدهما كان Ridge Racer Type 4. وظهرت في هذه اللعبة نمط المنافسة بين لاعبين على نفس الشاشة (بشكل منقسم) وبنوعي قيادة، الانزلاق والاستحواذ ،كما أظهرت اللعبة نمط عرض جديد سمح برسوميات ثلاثية الأبعاد أنقى من أية لعبة سابقة ووضع بذلك نهاية للحقبة السابقة، كما أنها بدورها كانت آخر لعبة Ridge racer على أجهزة PlayStation.

سجلت شخصية جيل فالنتين انتصاراً بعودتها في الجزء الثالث من اللعبة Resident Evil: Nemesis . أما المميز في هذا الجزء فهو أنه يجري على فترتين منفصلتين زمنياً فنصف اللعبة الأول تجري أحداثه في يوم قبل أحداث الجزء الثاني من اللعبة Ressident Evil 2 فيما تجري أحداث القسم الثاني من اللعبة بعد يومين من انتشار فيروس تي في مدينة راكون. وبغض النظر عن مقدار نجاح أو فشل هذه الحركة في اللعبة، فهي معيار القصة التي بني عليها الفيلم. ومن المثير بأن شخصية جيل ستكون قابلة للعب بها في الجزء الخامس Resident Evil 5. القادم من اللعبة في مارس 2010.

لأن لعبة C&C: Tiberian Wars كانت خيبة أمل للبعض، فإن شركة Relic قامت بعملية إنقاذ للمحافظة على سمعتها من خلال لعبة Homeworld وهي لعبة فضائية استراتيجية ثلاثية الأبعاد، طرحت هذه اللعبة فكرة الكاميرا الحرة بكل الاتجاهات إضافة لقصة فريدة، كما تميزت بمقطوعات موسيقية جذابة. بعد ذلك بقرابة 4 سنين قامت Relic بإنتاج جزء جديد لHomeworld وتصميم لعبة Warhammer40k: Dawn of War. أما الإصدارة الجديدة من لعبتهم المتميزة Dawn of War II فستكون بالأسواق في مارس 2010.

الآن الى اللعبة التي فرقت قاعدة جماهيرها العظيمة بشكل لم تفعله أية لعبة من هذه السلسلة من قبل حتى تاريخه Final fantasy XIII، العديد من الأشخاص انتقدوا الفجوات الموجودة في قصة اللعبة ونظام القتال المعقد. وعلى الرغم من أن نقص الحوارات الصوتية شكل مشكلة للكثيرين، إلا أن هذه اللعبة نجحت بامتلاك قلوب 8 ملايين لاعب حول العالم . ولحد الآن فقد شهدت السلسلة 3 مواضيع جديدة عليها (IX, X, XII) وجزءاً متمماً (X-2) وأول نسخة خاصة بها للعب على الإنترنت (XI) والعديد من الإصدارات الأخرى. كما أن العام الحالي سيشهد إصدار الجزء FF XIII إضافة وعلى الأغلب FF XIV، النسخة الثانية من إصدار اللعبة على الإنترنت.

أما آخر لعبة من صنف في طريقه الى الانقراض فهي لعبة FreeSpace 2، وهي ما تزال أحد أعظم ألعاب محاكاة المعارك الفضائية إذا استطعت التغاضي عن الرسوميات القديمة. وأنا شخصياً أعتقد أن لعبة Freelancer تمثل الوريث الشرعي لهذه اللعبة ولكن هذا رأي الشخصي فقط. بعد ذلك توجهت شركة Volition Inc الى سلسلة ألعاب ٌRed Faction. ولعل لعبة Jumpgate Evolution عندما تصدر، ستلبي رغبتي الملحة لألعاب القتال الفضائية.

لا يمكن الحديث عن ألعاب 1999 دون التطرق الى Crash Team Racing هذه اللعبة التي سيطرت على ما ألعبه في فترة طويلة من تلك السنة بل وبعد ذلك بسنوات لا تزال أحد أفضل ألعاب السباق لسيارات الكارت، وهو نوع من الألعاب الذي لم يتطور كثيراً على الرغم من صدور إصدارات لعبة Mario Kart في السنوات الحالية. فشركة Naughty Dog تركته وانطلقت نحو تنفيذ الألعاب الكبيرة من خلال سلسلة Jak & Daxter وبالطبع آخر إبداعاتهم الملحمية Uncharted 2.

أما آخر لعبة استراتيجية يجب الحديث عنها في 1999 فهي لعبة Age of Empires II. أحد أكثر الألعاب الاستراتيجية نجاحاً في تلك السنة وأنجحها على مر تاريخ الألعاب الاستراتيجية. لقد استطاعت شركة Ensemble أن تحسن التوليفة في هذه اللعبة وكان نمط اللعب الجماعي ملحمياً على الدوام. وعلى الرغم من أنهم لم يستطيعوا المحافظة على عظمتهم التي اكتسبوها في انتاجاتهم اللاحقة مثل Age of Mythology و Age of Empires III، فإن شركة Ensemble استطاعت من خلال لعبة Halo Wars أن تثبت كيف يمكن صنع لعبة استراتيجية ممتعة على أجهزة اللعب المنزلي.

بما أننا على وشك الوصول للنهائيات من هذا العام فلنتحدث عن أكثر ألعاب الرعب إرعاباً على الإطلاق، System Shock 2. إن هذه اللعبة مصممة لتتلاعب بعقلك وعواطفك بشكل لا مثيل له، الجو العام، الشرير، القصة، كل ذلك كان مجتمعاً معاً لتقديم الإثارة النفسية المرعبة والمقنعة. بالطبع فإن هذا الجزء هو الذي نُشر بعد Bioshok إحدى الألعاب التي حصلت على أعلى التقديرات في حينها. ستصدر Bioshock 2 في فبراير 2010، لذلك عليكم أن تتوقعوا إثارة أكبر ولكن بلحظات خوف أقل.

آخر لعبة سباق سيارات سنذكرها هي Gran Turismo 2. فمع قرب انتهاء حياة جهاز Playstation شكلت هذه اللعبة ما دفع لبقاء الجهاز الى أبعد من العمر المتوقع له. حتى برسوميات أعلى من منافسه اللدود Dreamcast. وستصدر لعبة GT5 المنتظرة في مارس 2010.

تبقى لعبة SoulCalibar لتاريخه أحد أكثر الألعاب تقديراً حتى اليوم، وذلك لسبب مهم. فحركة الأجسام الواقعية والأسلحة غير التقليدية اجتمعا معاً بإطار مميز من طريقة التحكم السهلة إضافة الى الرسوميات الرائعة. لقد كانت هذه اللعبة أحد التحف التي فاخر بها جهاز Dreamcast وعلى الرغم من العديد من الإصدارات اللاحقة لهذه اللعبة، إلا أنها بقيت نسخاً ممسوحة عن الأصل البراق ولم تستطع الوصول الى مستواه من الإبداع أو الجودة.

بانتهاء ذلك العام تم إصدار احد أكثر ألعاب الرماية تأثيراً وجاذبية على الإطلاق، Quack III Arena و Unreal Tournament. ولم يسبق في تاريخ ألعاب الفيديو أن نشبت منافسة حامية كما نشبت بين هاتين اللعبتين فقد تم إصدارهما بفارق 10 أيام وكلاهما يستهدف نفس شريحة السوق. وبعد سنوات من هذه المنافسة فكلا اللعبتين اصبحتا تعتبران مرجعاً في هذا المجال وتم استخدامهما في بطولات الألعاب الإلكترونية واستعمل محركاهما لانتاج عدد كبير من الألعاب الأخرى. ولم تستطع أية لعبة بعدهما من أن تأسر جماهير اللعب الجماعي على الإنترنت كما فعلت هاتان اللعبتان. والمميز هنا أن كلا اللعبتين كانتا رائعتين وأن هواة أحدهما كانوا يعترفون بقوة الخصم الآخر. وكما حال العديد من الألعاب هذه السنة فلم تستطع الأجزاء الجديدة أن تصل الى مستوى الأصل فقد تم التخلي عن UT3 من أغلب جماهيرها وأصبحت Quake 4 من الألعاب المتلاشية.

إذاً، ما الذي تعلمناه من عام 1999؟ لقد كانت أكبر الألعاب في نهاية الألفية هي ألعاب الرماية والألعاب الاستراتيجية المبتكرة، ألعاب القيادة وألعاب المغامرات التي تدعم اللعب الجماعي على الإنترنت MMORPG. والآن وبعد مرور عشرة أعوام، فإن الألعاب الجديدة مزجت بين هذه الأنواع مع بعضها، فكل لعبة الآن تضم نمطاً للعب الجماعي، وعناصر لعب RPG (لعب بالدور) وبعض أدوات إدارة الموارد (على الرغم من أنها ليست كموارد الألعاب الاستراتيجية)، الألعاب الموسيقية تتجه نحو الانحدار، والألعاب التشاركية تحرز عودة احتفالية. الألعاب على الأجهزة المحمولة في أوجها وكذلك ألعاب الانترنت على المتصفح (Quack Live) غير أن أفضل ما تحقق كان في عالم العاب الإثارة والمغامرات، الفضل في ذلك يعود لألعاب مثل Devil May Cry، God of War وسلسلة ألعاب Uncharted.

تحولت ألعاب الفيديو الى جزء مهم ومؤثر في خريطة الإعلام المعاصر جنباً الى جانب الموسيقى والأفلام. ويتم تقديمها حالياً على أية أجهزة يستخدمها البشر في حياتهم. بل وحتى من خلال طلبيات التوصيل للمنازل عن طريق الإنترنت، على الرغم من أنها لا تزال في بدايتها فإنها تكبر وتتضخم مع الوقت، وخلال العقد القادم فسيتم تجاوز آليات التخزين والنقل الفيزيائية. وبات كل شيء متصلاً الآن على الإنترنت، شبكات التواصل الاجتماعي تكبر وتكبر وصار اختراقها لعالم صناعة الألعاب أقرب من ذي قبل.

لذلك فلنضع جميعاً نظاراتنا الشمسية يا أصدقاء ولنتوجه نحو المستقبل المشرق فيما ندخل سوية الى هذا العقد الجديد.

We have searched the tubes to bring you a collection of the highest quality trailers shown at the Spike Video Game Awards 2009 a few hours ago. After the jump you’ll find the first batch of trailers premiered at last night’s awards ceremony.

UPDATE: Viacom apparently removed ALL the trailers posted on Youtube. We’ll try and find replacements, but don’t expect much on Youtube anytime soon.

First up is the trailer for Tron Evolution. We get a small glimpse of what Disney is upto with this 80s cult classic.

A bit vague, and the game still looks early in development, but Propoganda Games have a good 11 months before the Holiday 2010 release date.

Next up we have Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II from Lucas Arts.

The first game was sort of a hit and miss, which could have done with a bit more polish. Let’s hope the sequel addresses those issues and brings us more Jedi badassery.

Following from one of the biggest sleeper hits of this year, Warner Bros brings us Arkham Asylum 2.

Simply cannot wait for this one!

Next up is a franchise we haven’t heard from in ages, True Crime.

The game is obviously set in Hong Kong, and unlike the previous iterations, this looks more action oriented rather than simply being a GTA clone.

Another sequel to one of the better fighting titles this year, UFC Undisputed 2010.

More arenas, better moves and improved hit detection, we can hope so.

Next up is another franchise reboot, Medal of Honor.

The trailer looks a bit too close to Modern Warfare for it’s own good, but we’ll get more info near E3 and judge whether this is a Modern Warfare clone or a genuine step forward in fps story-telling.

The Prince of Persia movie tie-in game.

Apparently the game’s story takes place parallel to The Sands of Time storyline in the movie.

There are other trailers we’ve missed out due to lack of quality versions. Stay tuned for part 2.

أفلام جوائز Spike 2009 لألعاب الفيديو (الجزء 1)

لقد بحثنا في كل أنحاء الإنترنت لنحضر لكم أعلى الأفلام دقة والتي تم عرضها في احتفال جوائز Spike 2009 لألعاب الفيديو منذ ساعات قليلة. فيما يلي ستجد المجموعة الأولى من الأفلام التي تم نشرها في احتفالات الليلة الماضية.

أول الأفلام هو فيلم لعبة Tron Evolution، وفيه نستطيع أن نلقي نظرة حول ماتنوي شركة ديزني أن تفعله من خلال هذه اللعبة الكلاسيكية التي صدرت أول مرة في فيلم بالثمانينات.

هذا الفيلم غامض بعض الشيء، ولاتزال اللعبة تبدو وكأنها في أول مراحل تطويرها، غير أن شركة Propoganda Games لا تزال في السليم، فأمامها 11 شهراً إضافية قبل موعد طرحها في موسم عياد 2010.

في هذا الفيلم نشاهد لعبة حرب النجوم: القوة المحرّرة2 Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II من إنتاج شركة Lucas Arts.

لقد كانت اللعبة الأولى مزيجاً من الجيد والسيء، وكان يلزمها المزيد من اللمسات الأخيرة. فلنأمل أنهم تداركوا الأمر في هذا الجزء وسيجعلونا نستمتع بالمزيد من طاقة فرسان الجيداي المذهلة.

الفيلم التالي هو أكثر المفاجآت الكامنة في عالم الألعاب لهذا العام، فمن شركة وارنر برزرس تأتي لعبة الوطواط Arkham Asylum 2.

أنا ببساطة لم يعد بإمكاني الانتظار أكثر!

في هذا الفيلم عرض الجزء الجديد من لعبة لم نعد نسمع أخبارها منذ وقت طويل، لعبة جريمة حقيقية True Crime.

من الواضح أن الأحداث تجري في مدينة هونج كونج، وخلافاً للجزء الأول الذي بدا وكأنه تقليد للعبة GTA فإن هذا الجزء يبدو وكأنه قائم على أحداث متغيرة يحركها اللاعب.

مع جزء جديد لأحد أكثر ألعاب القتال متعة لهذا العام UFC Undisputed 2010.

المزيد من الحلبات، حركات أفضل ونظام ضرب متكامل، فلنأمل ذلك على الأقل.

الفيلم التالي هو انطلاقة جديدة لأحد أمتع ألعاب الرماية ميدالية الشرف Medal of Honor.

يبدو الفيلم وكأن اللعبة ستكون قريبة من لعبة Modern Warfare وهذا شيء جيد مبدئياً، غير أننا سننتظر مؤتمر E3 لنحكم فيما إن كانت هذه اللعبة ستكون نسخة مقلدة من Modern Warfare أم أنها ستكون خطوة أصيلة وجديدة في عالم قصص ألعاب الرماية.

هناك مقطع آخر لم نستطع وضعه لعدم وجود نسخة أكثر دقة، ابقوا معنا من أجل الجزء الثاني من العروض.

EA finally announced yesterday that their new Medal of Honor game will reboot the franchise into modern day warfare. The game will be set is Afghanistan and will focus on a group of elite soldiers called Tier 1 Operators. This is a real division under the Special Operations Command currently serving in Afghanistan. While no other detailed news has been given out, I give props to EA for handling such a touchy subject. No doubt the game will be more cinematic than other military simulators, but I doubt the singleplayer campaign will reach the ridiculousness of Activision’s Modern Warfare series.

In past games EA had the luxury of historical events to string together a story for their Medal of Honor games. I wonder if they will follow actual events in the Afghan operations or make up a completely fictional story, or perhaps a mix of both. EA’s Los Angeles studio will be developing the singleplayer while DICE will be working on the multiplayer side of things. Sounds good, but we’ll find out when the game ships in Fall 2010.

أعلنت شركة “إي أيه/EA” مؤخراً أن الجزء القادم من لعبتها الشهيرة “ميدال أوف هونور” سيقوم بإطلاق تلك السلسلة ضمن سياق المعارك المعاصرة. وستجري أحداث القصة في أفغانستان وتركز على مجموعة من جنود قوات النخبة يطلق عليها اسم “تاير 1 اوبيراتورز/ Tier 1 Operators” وهي فرقة حقيقية تعمل تحت أمرة قيادة القوات الخاصة حالياً في أفغانستان. وفيما لم تصدر أية تفاصيل إضافية عن الموضوع، فإنني لا بد أن أعطي قصبة السبق لشركة EA لأنها تتناول موضوعاً معاصراً حساساً. ولا شك من أن هذه اللعبة ستكون بروح سينمائية أكثر من أية لعبة قتال عسكري أخرى، غير أني أشك أن نمط حملة اللاعب المنفرد ستصل الى مستوى سخافة سلسلة لعبة “معارك معاصرة/Modern Warfare” من شركة “أكتيفجن/Activision”!

لقد تميزت سلسلة ألعاب شركة EA الماضية بتناولها سلسلة أحداث تاريخية ربطت أجزاء لعبة ميدل أوف هونور السابقة. وأنا أتساءل إن كانوا سيقومون بتتبع أحداث الحرب في أفغانستان كما حدثت أم أنهم سيقومون باختراع قصة خيالية بحتة، أو لعله سيكون مزيجاً من الاثنين معاً!
تقوم استوديوهات EA في لوس أنجلس بتطوير نمط حملة اللاعب المنفرد، فيما ستقوم شركة DICE بتطوير نمط اللعب الجماعي..يبدو ذلك واعداً، غير أننا سنجد الحقيقة بأنفسنا عندما يتم شحن اللعبة الى الأسواق في خريف 2010.
