Top 5 Digital Distribution services – Part 1 أفضل خمسة متاجر لشراء الألعاب من الإنترنت – الجزء الأول

Downloading videogames online through digital distribution sites is a great way to get your PC games. Rather than inconvenience yourself by going to the store, or ordering online, you can simply download the game right away and straight to your hard drive. And it’s often cheaper, because those services don’t have so many expensive overheads like staff and premises; as you’re not buying anything physical. Bear in mind that you will have to abide by the DRM (digital rights management) rules when you download some games. DRM is basically a mean to make sure you’re not doing anything illegal with downloaded games, such as going over the installation limit, or giving the games out to friends.

Ubisoft makes up with its users affected by the DRM trouble يوبي سوفت تعوض لاعبيها

When Ubisoft started enforcing its new DRM servers to make sure only legitimate authenticated users can play Ubisoft’s games, users were greeted with the worst error messages ever: Servers not available to authenticate users. Turns out that hackers organized a DDOS attacks on Ubisoft’s server, rendering them unable to service requests, putting them out of service before even starting.

Weeks after this unfortunate event, with things now back on track, Ubisoft’s decided to make it up to their grieved users. Thay have emailed their user base giving them the choice of downloading a free full PC game (i.e. Prince of Persia, H.A.W.X., EndWar, and Heroes Over Europe). Others have been offered free DLC that’s normally included in premium editions of Assassin’s Creed 2.

Ubisoft’s DRM servers down تعطل المخدمات المسؤولة عن تشغيل النسخ الأصلية لألعاب يوبيسوفت

So Ubisoft came out with a brand spanking new DRM policy for their new PC titles, including the recently released Assassins Creed II and Silent Hunter 5. The whole idea is to combat piracy by ensuring that players have a constant online connection to their DRM servers while playing a singleplayer game. Should connection to the servers be lost, the singleplayer will not be playable.

Sod’s law therefore comes into full effect as Ubisoft’s DRM servers were down for pretty much the entire weekend and have yet to go up. So meanwhile paying customers are stuck at the Main Menu, pirates have been enjoying said games this whole time. Good times Ubisoft, good times.

Oh Ubisoft, please reconsider شركة يوبيسوفت العزيزة: أرجوكم أن تعيدوا النظر

Granted, developing a decent AAA video game costs loads of money, and piracy hurts both the gamer and the developer. However, DRM measures should be implemented to stop piracy, never to antagonize gamers who go down the legitimate road to own their games. Recently, we’ve tested the PC preview copy of Ubisoft’s Silent Hunter 5, which required us to subscribe with Ubi.com website, and to maintain an internet connection each time we played the preview copy.

[Dated] Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom موعد إصدار لعبة ستلرز السابعة

Ubisoft has announced the details of the Settlers 7: Paths to a Kingdom Collector Edition, available on March 25th for EMEA territories (along with the normal edition). Dedicated to the fans of the Settlers series, the Collector Edition brings the great universe of the series one step further thanks to its qualitative set of items. Settlers 7 will be available for both Windows and Macintosh based computers.

Ubisoft games require net connection for authentication ألعاب يوبيسوفت تحتاج للتفعيل من خلال انترنت

In a recent interview, Ubisoft revealed their latest plans to combat piracy on PC. Their solution is for PC gamers to stay online, connected to Ubisoft’s servers before playing the game, thereby ensuring that you copy of the game is legit. They’ll be doing this in favour of dropping SecuROM and StarForce, both of which are DRM schemes that have seen nothing but utter hatred from the PC gaming community.

So Valve’s Steam network has been doing it since 2004, and going in the future, most big publishers will undoubtedly want their own online digital distribution platform; EA already has their own online store, and Activision is sure to make heavy use of Blizzard’s upcoming BattleNet 2.0 service. The thing is that Steam is now a very mature and extremely robust platform, and most publishers are just playing catch-up. And in doing so, they often forget about what makes the market leader successful in the first place.
