[Review] Dark Void تقرير لعبة دارك فويد

Stumbling on its path to glory.

Staring up the game for the first time, Dark Void depicts a sense of grand adventure. You’re William Augustus Grey, a humble cargo pilot in the good old ‘30s, shot down somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle by what looked like a UFO. To make things more difficult, you’re trying to rekindle an old flame when your ex comes along for the ride.

The main story of Dark Void is presented in nice, bite sized cutscenes punctuating the end of every chapter. While the game is paced smoothly, the ending feels devoid of any closure, and many questions are left unanswered. For a singleplayer game, this is a bit of a downer, but the overall experience feels quite refreshing in this day and age of grimy shooters and apocalyptic futures.

Speaking of futures, the main villains of the game are a race of aliens called the Watchers. Perhaps I missed it, but the game does a poor job of explaining how and where the Watchers came from. Their objective is your run of the mill world domination. This, they do through an alternate dimension, the portal to which opens in the Bermuda Triangle, aka The Void. Other unanswered questions include the existence of the Adepts, a group of unique humans who drove the Watchers back into the Void and now stay there to keep them at bay. And why dear William is the “key” to stopping the Watchers’ invasion of Earth.

Plot holes aside, the voice acting done for all the characters is really nice. In fact, some of you will immediately recognize William as Nolan North, now famous for his recent role as Drake in Uncharted 2. Facial animation, especially the musical score by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica) sets the mood of the game perfectly. Graphically the game breaks no new grounds, but what’s there looks good. The odd bit of textures here and there could’ve done with some more polish, especially considering the game’s delay from Fall 2009, but it’s nothing that deters from the overall experience.

This analogy can be applied to many other aspects of the game as well, that it’s good, but not great. Looking at the combat, you have somewhat of a mixed bag. The new elements that are introduced, namely the vertical cover system and the use of your jetpack to fly off and take out enemies hiding behind cover is quite thrilling, setting it well apart from all the generic 3^rd person shooters out there. Another gameplay aspect that’s somewhat unique to Dark Void is the aerial combat where you take out flying UFOs and enemy installations on the ground with your jetpack mounted machine-guns, accounting for almost 40% of the gameplay. These aerial missions are very nicely done, with a smooth flow of combat; not surprising since the developers are the same team behind Crimson Skies.

What makes the game challenging, and borderline frustrating, is the relatively huge learning curve when getting accustomed to the flying mechanics. Often times you’ll initiate the flying mode only to smash right back into the ground. The Y-axis is inverted and makes sense, although it can be changed. However, the ease with which you can switch between ground and aerial combat becomes a little jarring when you accidentally mistake the control scheme. My one major complaint with the game is the lack of lock-on feature. In aerial combat, this can be a dealbreaker for many as it’s extremely hard to keep track of your targets and missing them most of the time. Still, practice makes perfect, and it’s something that can be overcome the better you get at it.

What we’re left with in the end is a unique experience, with some annoyances. Overall, your time with Dark Void will be fun, especially nearing the end, as the deeper you get into the combat, the more rewarding it becomes. Just don’t expect a happy ending.

عندما تبدأ تشغيل اللعبة في المرة الأولى، فسينتابك ذلك الإحساس الجميل بأن لعبة دارك فويد هي لعبة مغامرات ملحمية كبيرة. ستلعب دور ويليام أوجستوس جراي، ربان طائرة شحن متواضعة في الثلاثينات من القرن الماضي، يتم إسقاط طائرته أثناء مروره فوق مثلث برمودا مما يبدو وكأنه طبق طائر غريب، ولجعل القصة أكثر درامية فأنت تحاول إصلاح ذات البين مع زوجتك السابقة التي تشاركك رحلتك.

يتم عرض قصة اللعبة في دارك فويد بشكل سلس ولطيف مع أفلام إنتقالية قصيرة ومناسبة في نهاية كل مرحلة. على الرغم من أن سير اللعبة وتسارع الأحداث يمضي طوال الوقت بشكل ممتاز، فإن النهاية تأتي دون حسم واضح ولا تجيب على العديد من الأسئلة التي تنتاب اللاعب عن القصة. وبصراحة فإن هذا الأمر سيزعج بشكل ما اللاعب الذي يتوقع نهاية معينة في نمط اللعب المنفرد، غير أن لعبة الرماية هذه و التي تجري في جو مستقبلي كئيب مع نكهة الثلاثينات من القرن الماضي ستجذبك وتعطيك إحساساً فريداً بكل تأكيد.

بما أننا نتكلم عن المستقبل، فإن الأعداء الرئيسيين في اللعبة هم جنس فضائي اسمه Watchers (المراقبون). لعلي لم أفهم قصتهم تماماً أو لعل اللعبة لم تستطع شرح خلفيتهم بشكل واضح، فمن أين قدموا، ولماذا يستهدفونك ويحاولون السيطرة على العالم. فهم يعيشون في عالم آخر هو العدم Void ويدخلون الى الأرض من خلال مثلث برمودا. كما أن هناك أسئلة أخرى تتعلق بوجود الأديبتس Adepts وهم جماعة فريدة من البشر استطاعوا إعادة الواتشرز الى عالمهم وبقوا مرابطين على البوابة ليمنعوهم من العودة الى الأرض. وما الذي جعل من صديقنا العزيز ويليام ذلك المفتاح الذي يستطيع إقفال البوابة في وجه الواتشرز ومنعهم من غزو الأرض؟

بعيداً عن الثغرات في القصة، فإن صوت تمثيل كل الشخصيات منجز بشكل جميل جداً. بالحقيقة فإننا سنميز فوراً صوت الممثل نولان نورث الذي يلعب دور ويليام والذي أصبح مشهوراً جداً لدوره بشخصية دريك في لعبة Uncharted 2، وحركات وجهه المميزة. أما الموسيقى الرائعة فهي من تأليف “بير مكجريري” (مؤلف موسيقى المسلسل التليفزيوني الشهير Battlestar Galactica) والتي تمازجت مع روح اللعبة بشكل كبير. أما بالنسبة للرسوميات فإن اللعبة لم تحقق شيئاً فوق العادة غير أن ما رأيناه كان جيداً جداً. مع ملاحظة وجود بعض الإكساءات الغريبة التي تظهر أحياناً ونعتقد أنها تحتاج لبعض التنعيم، خاصة وأن موعد إصدار اللعبة تأجل من خريف 2009، غير أن ذلك لن يؤثر حتماً في أداء اللعبة الإجمالي.

وأما عند النظر للقتال فلدينا أمور مختلطة: الأشياء الجديدة التي تم عرضها وخاصة نظام الحماية المائل / الشاقولي واستخدام حقيبة الطيران للانطلاق وسحب الأعداء المختبئين خلف السواتر، ممتعة الى حد كبير الأمر الذي يميزها عن ألعاب الرماية من منظور الشخص الثالث TPS الموجودة في السوق حالياً. إضافة الى ما سبق فهناك نظام المعارك الجوية الذي تقوم من خلاله بإسقاط مركبات الأعداء الطائرة ومحطاتهم الأرضية باستخدام حقيبتك النفاثة المزودة بمدافع رشاشة وهي تمثل 40% تقريباً من اللعبة. وقد تم تنفيذ هذه المعارك الجوية باحترافية عالية، لا عجب من ذلك إذا علمنا أن الفريق الذي صنعها هو نفس الفريق وراء لعبة Crimson Skies.

أما ما يجعل من هذه اللعبة مليئة بالتحدي بل وتقترب أحياناً من حدود التسبب بالاحباط فهو الطريقة الطويلة لتعلم تقنيات الطيران وإتقانها، ففي كل مرة تدخل فيها نمط الطيران ستجد نفسك تهوي الى الأرض مرة أخرى. لقد تم عكس محور الطيران العمودي (الرأسي) Y وهذا منطقي (رغم انه يمكن تغييره). كما أن السهولة التي تجعلك تنطلق من نظام القتال الأرضي الى الطيران مربكة أحياناً عندما تضغط على سبيل الخطأ على الزر الذي يقوم بذلك. أما انتقادي الأساسي حول هذه اللعبة فهو عدم وجود نظام لتحديد الأهداف في نمط المعارك الجوية. وسيكون ذلك أمراً مزعجاً للكثيرين لصعوبة متابعة التسديد على الأهداف الطائرة أثناء التحكم بالطيران وإضاعتها أحياناً كثيرة. غير أنه لايمكنني إلا أن أقول أن التدريب يصنع الاحترافية، وملاحظتي يمكن تجاوزها إذا استمريت باللعبة وتعودت عليها.

في النهاية فلا بد أن نقول أن هذه اللعبة ستؤمن لكم تجربة لعب مميزة مع إزعاجات صغيرة. وبشكل عام فإن الوقت الذي ستقضيه في لعبة Dark Void سيكون ممتعاً، وخاصة قرب النهاية، حيث يزداد انغماسك في المعارك وتزداد الجوائز التي تحصل عليها لإنجازاتك. لكن لا تتوقعوا أية نهايات سعيدة.

Published by Capcom, Dark Void is an upcoming sci-fi action-adventure video game for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Players will fight aliens on-foot and in mid-air combat, assuming the role of a cargo pilot named William Augustus Grey. Will crashes in the Bermuda Triangle, and then – you guessed it – he gets teleported to a parallel universe called “The Void,” where he encounters other humans, called Survivors. Together, Will and the survivors must battle an alien race known as the Watchers and return to Earth. Capcom is offering a demo for gamers to try out the game, before its release this coming week.

With the launch of Capcom’s sci-fi shooter, Dark Void, right around the corner, Capcom is giving gamers a chance to experience the void for themselves this week with a downloadable demo coming to Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. The Dark Void demo will be available for download from Xbox Live on Wednesday January 6th and PlayStation Network on Thursday January 7th

The demo will give gamers a chance to strap on their jet pack for the first time and explore the mysterious and miraculous world of Dark Void through a combination of thrilling aerial dog-fighting, unique vertical cover action and on-foot combat. Dark Void is scheduled for release across European territories on Friday January 22nd and will be available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Following in the veins of Mega Man 9 and the Bionic Commando remake, Capcom brings Dark Void Zero, a remake full release of what Dark Void was originally going to be on the NES. Back in the 80’s Capcom was working on Dark Rift, a side-scrolling platformer with revolutionary graphics and refined controls brought over from the Mega Man series.

The SNES hit, and the project got canned. Now, after being forgotten for almost 20 years, Capcom is bringing back the original NES developed title on the DSiWare in Jan next year. The 8-bit classic will retail for 500 Nintendo Points, and will be a good way to reflect on how far technology has evolved from the original concept of the game to what we have now.

استمراراً لخطتها في نشر نسخ جديدة من الألعاب الناجحة سابقاً مثل ميجا مان 9 و بيونيك كوماندو، أصدرت شركة كابكوم لعبة Dark Void Zero، وهي الإصدار الكامل لهذه اللعبة فيما لو تم إنتاجها على أجهزة NES. ففي الثمانينات من القرن الماضي كانت شركة كابكوم تعمل على تصنيع جهاز لعب جديد باسم Dark Rift برسوميات قوية ووسائل تحكم جديدة وطرح لعبة خاصة له من سلسلة ميجا مان.

غير أن المشروع توقف وأصيب إنتاج اللعبة بالشلل. الآن وبعد أن بقيت في الأدراج لمدة 20 سنة، فها هي كابكوم تعود الى هذه اللعبة الأصيلة وتطورها لجهاز DSiWare وتطرحها خلال شهر يناير القادم. سيتم طرح هذه اللعبة من فئة 8بت الكلاسيكية مقابل 500 نقطة على شبكة نينتيندو، ولعلها تكون لعبة تاريخية تعيد الذاكرة بنا حول كيف كانت الألعاب وكيف تطورت الى ما نحن عليه الآن.

Dark Void tapped by Brad Pitt فيلم مأخوذ من قصة ‘دارك فويد‘ بطولة براد بيت

While the game is out mid January next year, Dark Void has already been licensed as a movie by Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment production house. There are rumours flying around that Pitt himself might be starring in the movie. No need to hold you breath though, the rights to the film have been brought, there is no word on a script or even when the production will start. Still, it’s good to know that the story for Dark Void was interesting enough for Brad Pitt to take an interest in it.

Los Angeles, CA (November 19, 2009) – Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment, under its Creative Partnership with Reliance BIG Entertainment, and Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, have come to terms on the film rights relating to Dark Void™, a new property from Capcom. The theatrical version of the Dark Void game is being developed as a sci-fi action franchise and potential starring vehicle for Pitt.

Capcom will release Dark Void on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and PC in North America on January 19, 2010 and across Europe on January 22, 2010.

Dark Void is an adrenaline-fuelled blend of aerial and ground-pounding combat which centers on Will, a pilot who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle following a routine mission. Will wakes up to find himself in “The Void,” an alternate world resembling a primitive earth where aliens with superior technology are planning to take over civilization. Together with a faction of humans who have disappeared into the Void, Will takes on the alien race using their own advanced technology including a high-powered jet pack to defeat them and keep order in the civilized world.

Reliance BIG Entertainment, the flagship media and entertainment arm of Indian conglomerate, Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (R-ADAG), first introduced its innovative development/production financing deal, termed a Creative Partnership, with Plan B Entertainment at the Cannes Film Festival 2008.

Reliance BIG Entertainment’s Chairman Amit Khanna commented, ‘”We are delighted that our Creative Partnership with Plan B has led to this agreement to develop the Dark Void motion picture based on Dark Void along with Capcom and we look forward to future projects from them.”

“As a game, Dark Void was developed with a wide-screen mentality – a world full of adventure presented in cinematic scope and scale,” said Germaine Gioia, senior vice president, licensing, Capcom Entertainment. “Plan B recognized the potential of our newest property and are as excited about bringing Dark Void to life in cinemas as Capcom is to bring the interactive experience to home theaters.”

The deal was brokered by CAA on behalf of Reliance BIG Entertainment and Plan B, and by UTA on behalf of Capcom. Plan B was additionally represented in the deal by Jon Liebman and Cynthia Pett-Dante at Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
