[Review] Logitech G25 Racing Wheel ‘تقرير عن عجلة القيادة ‘جي 25

With the release of the G27 racing wheel sometime next year for our part of the world, we decided to have a look at the best offering currently on the market.

Looking at the box, the player sees that the whole set comes in 3 pieces, your steering wheel, a separate gearbox and of course the pedal shifts. Handling all the pieces for the first time, you realize that it weighs a lot more than you expected, but that’s because of the materials used. While leather wraps the steering and the gear stick, brushed stainless steel is used throughout for the pedal shifts and  for the paddle shifters behind the wheel. Anyone who sees the set for the first time will be immediately impressed with the build quality.

Setting up the G25 is a bit of hassle though. The foot pedals and the gearbox are all wired to the bottom of the wheel, which also houses the power cord and the USB cable, resulting in 4 wires sticking out the back of the wheel. Depending on your setup and cable management skills, this can either look OK at best, or a horrible mess of even more wires than you already have. The gearbox comes with three bolt-on support screws, while the steering has two, albeit with spacing for smaller desks.

While the steering wheel only has two buttons, the rest of the buttons, along with a D-pad are situated on the gearbox. I personally found the two buttons on the steering wheel to be adequate for most of my driving needs. Having the gearbox as a separate unit also allowed me to place it near the bottom right of the wheel for a more realistic driving position, as opposed to attached gear shifts with the wheel. Keep in mind that all the pedals feel somewhat realistic in terms of the pressure needed to be applied, but the break doesn’t soften up, meaning that you will push it hard during some intense corners. Thus the pedals should be kept in a stable position so as not to slide forward. This is not an issue with the carpet grip on the pedal base, but on hardwood or tiled flooring, it becomes a tricky situation to handle.

I tested the G25 on both GT4 on the PS2 slim and GT5 Prologue on a PS3 phat. Sadly my launch PS3 is Japanese which means I couldn’t test GT4 on it, as all PS2 games are still region locked. In any case, playing GT4 on the G25 wheel was a real delight, after having played it only on the DualShock thus far. Unfortunately the game doesn’t recognize the clutch or the 6 speed gearbox, so I was left with sequential gear changes. Force feedback on the game, thanks to the dual-motor system, was serene. Every time a car rolled off the road onto the bumper strips or grass, I could really tell which wheel entered first and was the last to leave. Taking sharp turns and perfecting the line with small movements is extremely fun.

GT5 Prologue was almost fully compatible, recognizing both the clutch and the 6 speed gearbox. I say almost because I still had to use the DualShock controller for the PS Home button. Otherwise the whole setup was absolutely perfect for the game, can’t wait to try it out with GT5 next year.

The only downside I see for the G25 is actually not a fault of Logitech. More games on the market should provide full support (meaning clutch, 6 speed shifting and full force feedback) for the G25. What would make this deal even sweeter would be Xbox 360 compatibility. While the G25 does work on PC games, Microsoft will not have G25 on their console, most likely due to their own wheel accessory. Guess you can’t have all the good things in life. That said, the G25 is really the best wheel on the market right now, and given the premium prices that will be charged for the G27 once it’s out, the G25 will also be the best bang for your buck.

أقترب موعد إصدار عجلة القيادة G27، لذا قررنا إلقاء نظرة على أفضل عجلات القيادة التوافرة في الأسواق حالياً.
عادة عندما ينظر اللاعب إلى علبة عجلة القيادة يجدها مكونة من 3 أجزاء وهي المقود وعلبة السرعة منفصل ودواسة النقلات وعندما تستخدم كل هذه الأجزاء لأول مرة تكتشف أنها أثقل مما كنت تتوقع والسبب هو الخامات المستخدمة في صناعتها؛ فالجلد يغلف المقود وعصا النقلات بينما اُستخدم الأستنلس في صناعة الدواسات والناقلات الموجودة خلف المقود، سينبهر كل من يرى المجموعة لأول مرة بروعتها وجودة خاماتها.

يتطلب توصيل G25 وإعدادها بعض المجهود؛ فالدواسات وعلبة السرعة متصلة بأسلاك لأسفل عجلة القيادة التي تتصل بها أيضاً وصلة الكهرباء وكابل USB مما يعني أن هناك أربعة أسلاك تدلى من عجلة القيادة وسيبدو المنظر مقبولاً على أفضل الفروض هذا إن كنت محترف في التعامل مع الأسلاك وإداراتها، أو قد تجده فوضى عارمة وإضافة جديدة وكبيرة للأسلاك التي تعاني منها من قبل. ستجد علبة السرعة بثلاثة مسامير داعمة بينما يوجد إثنان في عجلة القيادة لتتمكن من استخدامها على المكاتب الأصغر حجماً.

ستجد زران في عجلة القيادة بينما باقي الأزرار مع D-Pad في علبة السرعة، وقد ارتحت كثيراً لزري عجلة القيادة ووجدتهما مناسبين لكل احتياجاتي في القيادة. أتاح لي انفصال وحدة علبة السرعة عن المقود إمكانية وضعها أسفل عجلة القيادة على اليمين مثلما يحدث في القيادة الواقعية ، وضعوا في اعتباركم أن الدواسات تشعرك وكأنك تقود سيارة حقيقية عند الضغط لأنها تحتاج لنفس القدر من الضغط الذي تحتاجه الدواسات الحقيقية ولكن المكابح ليست بنفس سلاسة المكابح الحقيقية أي أنك ستضطر للضغط عليها بقوة في بعض المواقف الحرجة، وعليك وضعها في موقع ثابت حتى لا تنزلق للأمام ولن يمثل هذا مشكلة بفضل السجادة التي تمنعها من الانزلاق ولكن الموقف يختلف إذا وضعتها على أرضية خشبية .

اختبرت عجلة قيادة G25 مع لعبة ‘جراند ثيفت أوتو 4’ على جهاز ‘بلايستيشن 2’ و‘جراند ثيفت أوتو 5’ على جهاز ‘بلايستيشن 3’ ولكن لم أتمكن للأسف من اختبارها مع ‘جراند ثيفت أوتو 4’ لأن جهازي ‘بلايستيشن 3’ من الإصدارة اليابانية، لأنه كبقية ألعاب ‘بلايستيشن 2’ لا يزال محصور على المنطقة الأوروبية. في جميع الأحوال أسعدني كثيراً لعب ‘جراند ثيفت أوتو 4’ بعجلة قيادة G25 فلم أكن قد لعبتها من قبل سوى باستخدام DualShock، ولكن اللعبة –للأسف – لا تعرف التعشيق السادس، لذا علقت في تستلسل النقلات المعتادة. تمكنت _بفضل نظام التحكم الثنائي من معرفة أي العجلات خرجت عن المسار أولاً وأيهم عادت أخيراً، واستمتعت كثيراً بالانحرافات الحادة والدوران بالسيارة وكل حركة صغيرة قمت بها بعجلة القيادة.
المشكلة الوحيدة التي واجهتها مع G25 –والتي لم تكت الغلطة فيها من ‘لوجيتك’ هي نقص الألعاب التي تدعم التعشيق السادس و Full force feedback، وطبعاً توافق عجلة القيادة مع اكس بوكس 360 يجعل الصفقة رابحة حقاً. إن G25 متوافقة مع الحاسوب إلا أن ميكروسوفت لن تدرج G25 معه فلديها منتاجاتها الخاصة لهذا الغرض. لا يمكننا الحصول على كل مباهج الحياة . عجلة قيادة G25 هب أفضل عجلة قيادة في السوق حالياً وستكون هي الأفضل ثمناً بالمقارنة بـثمن عجلة قيادة G27 المرتفع عند صدورها .
