[EA] Acquires Playfish, lays off 1500 استحواذ ‘الكترونيك انترتاينمنت’ على ‘بلاي فيش’ وتسريح 1500 موظف

In it’s recent financial call, EA confirmed the acquisition of social gaming developer Playfish for $300 million, with a further $100 million if certain milestones are achieved. Playfish is responsible for Pet Society and Word Challenge, amongst other titles on social networking sites such as Facebook, claiming over 50 million active users who clock in over 1 billion sessions every month.

An interesting way for EA to expand into emerging markets. The downside to this story, although not directly related, is the confirmation of layoffs of 1500 people in various studios until April 2010, when the financial year ends. They reported a 2nd quarter net loss of $391 million.  EA claims that the layoffs will help them reduce annual costs by up to $100 million, hoping that they will be in a profitable state by the fourth quarter.  These are tough times indeed.

أكدت شركة الكترونيك انترتاينمنت مؤخراً خبر استحواذها على ‘بلاي فيش’ الشركة المطورة للألعاب الاجتماعية مقابل 300 مليون دولار بالإضافة إلى 100 مليون آخرين في حالة تحقق بعض الإنجازات المتفق عليها. اشتهرت ‘بلاي فيش’ بألعاب Pet Society, Work Challenge وشبكات اجتماعية عديدة منها Facebook الذي يستخدمه أكثر من 50 مليون مستخدم يدخلون ويخرجون منه أكثر من مليار مرة في الشهر.

أقر أن طريقة ‘الكترونيك انترتاينمنت’ في التوسع مثيرة للاهتمام فعلاً، ولكن للقصة وجه آخر مظلم؛ فقد أكدت الشركة أيضاً خبر نيتها تسريح 2500 موظف بنهاية السنة المالية في ابريل 2010 من مختلف استوديوهات الشركة، كما أعلنت أن الشركة حققت صافي خسارة في الربع الثاني من العام يقدر بـ391 مليون دولار. وتزعم الشركة أن خفض العمالة سيساعد على خفض التكاليف السنوية بحوالي 100 مليون دولار وأعربت عن أملها في أن تحقق أرباح في الربع الأخير من السنة. لقد أثرت الأزمة الإقتصادية فعلاً على الجميع.
